What's the different either i persued my studies in Singapore Polytechnic (Food Science and Nutrition) or applied local University?
I just confused about the future (career) when i finished my graduate, what a pleasure to get your direct.

Answer :
Yes, you can apply to be a NSM member when you graduate.
Of course I would recommend to study locally, eg UKM or UPM. Another important point is that local universities give degrees in BSc Nutrition. It is better than B SC Food science and nutrition, if you want to be a nutritionists.
I think you should get a chance to speak to a nutritionist and other professionals before you decide. It is very difficult to discuss over the e-mail like this.
Question :
Could you kindly provide information on what educational programme I can embark upon to bacome a qualified Nutritionist? I do not think I qualify for a place at UPM. Could you suggest a good educational insitute I may apply to?

Answer :
The official organisations conducting nutrition courses in the country are UKM, UPM, UMS (in Sabah). You may try some overseas universities, such as Australia. But I do not have names of these universities and their addresses. You can try to check the web and e-mail them to ask. Give them your results and ask them.
I would be careful about the correspondence courses on nutrition that some organsiations are promoting. Some of them may not be qualified to conduct such courses and as such their degrees may not be recognised.
Question :
Hai, I am currently a student in University of Nebraska at Omaha in the United States. I am from Malaysia. My major is Nutrition Science and I am graduating in May 2002. My question is if I want to be dietitian in a hospital, what kind of requirement do I need? For example, do I need any working experience or take a professional examination? Could you please give more information about the qualifications as a dietetian in Malaysia to work in a hospital? I do hope that I can work in Malaysia after I graduated. Thank you!

Answer :
You are addressing the question to the wrong organisation. We are the Nutrition Society of Malaysia !! Not dietitians. I do know however that with just a nutrition science degree, you may not practice as a dietitian in Malaysia. But do find out from the correct people: the Malaysian Dietitian's Association.
You are however welcome to join us a nutritionists ! You can be our member.
Question :
I am interested to pursue a Degree in Nutrition. Is there any courses currently available in Malaysia? I would appreciate it if you be able to assist.

Answer :
Definitely. For example the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia conducts degree courses in nutrition, up to PhD level. Universiti Malaysia Sabah and UKM also conducts courses in Fd Science and Nutrition. You will have to check with these universities for details. But basically you will need a STPM to gain entry.
Question :
I wish to take the nutrition course in penang, can you please kindly to recommend me with college have provided this course.

Answer :
You did not provide details of the course you intend to take. For example, is it a undergraduate course you are planning ? or is it a non-degree short course ?
Anyway, the universities providing degree courses in nutrition are in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and in Universiti Putra Malaysia. There is no nutrition basic degree course in Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.
I would encourage you to look into the website of these universities, which may provide you with more information.
Question :
I'm a graduate in Nutrition & Community Health from UPM since March last year. I have found that it's very difficult to get a job if I'm not a registered Nutritionist. So how do I go about being one. I hope you could help me. Thank you.

Answer :
There is no requirement in this country to register as a nutritionist before one can practice nutrition. No yet any way. The proposed law is still not passed. If you have difficulty to get a job as a nutritionist, it is certainly not because you are not registered. I guess the people you approached do not have posts for nutritionists or they do not appreciate nutrition graduates.
Are you a member of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia ? I would encourage you to be.
Question :
I have been going through your website and need help - where can i take up a nutrition course - online, offcampus?

Answer :
I do not think there is any nutrition course online or off campus in this country. There are several universities offering nutrition course, full time, a 3-year course.
